Starting from mid-August, Romanian pensioners will receive pension recalculation decisions in person, the director of the National Pensions Agency, Daniel Baciu, announced on Tuesday in a television statement. The documents will be delivered directly to the beneficiaries’ homes by post.
“No one will lose points after the recalculation, because we have a clear principle in law that if the amount calculated according to the new legal formula is lower than the amount paid, the amount of the most favorable pension is the payment surplus. Therefore, no one will lose a pension, and probably the vast majority will see an increase in their pensions,” Daniel Baciu said on television.
The chairman of the National Pension Service said the pension recalculation will bring “substantial increases” for pensioners with more than 25 years of service. These increases are due to the stabilization points involved in calculating the new pensions.
“For pensioners with a contribution period of more than 25 years and where the stabilization point comes into play, the increase is quite significant,” said Daniel Baciu.
According to calculations carried out so far, more than 3 million pensioners will receive additional funds, with the amount of the increase being affected by each beneficiary’s occupational history.
