The Portuguese Prime Minister announced today the increase of the Portugal-Angola credit line by another 500 million euros, with the objective of giving a “new and significant boost” to relations between the two countries, especially the economic ones.

Luis Montenegro made these remarks at the Presidential Palace after a private meeting with the President of the Republic of Angola, Joao Lourenço, and before a meeting between the two countries’ extended delegations.

“I want to announce to you the message I conveyed to President Joao Lourenço: the credit line, which currently amounts to 2 billion euros, will be increased by another 500 million euros,” he said.

The prime minister said that while the line had not yet been fully utilized, the increase “was a sign of confidence in Angola’s future.”

Luis Montenegro believes that the goal of the 24th Constitutional Government is to continue what has been done in the past in bilateral relations with Angola, but not only.

“Our goal is to create a new impetus, a new huge impetus in the relations between our two countries, especially in the economic relations,” he said.
