Overall, the mood in Styrian industry remains poor. This is the result of the current economic survey of the Styrian Federation of Industrialists (IV). A total of 46 companies with more than 46,200 employees participated.
64% of survey participants rated the current business situation as fair, 29% as poor. “The ongoing decline in Styrian industry shows how urgently we need to take steps to improve the competitive conditions of companies,” said Christoph Robinson, Managing Director of IV-Steiermark.

An assessment of the current order backlog paints a similar picture: Most respondents say that their capacity utilization is currently only average, while only ten percent say that the order situation is good. The situation on the labor market remains “contradictory,” IV said. On the one hand, the search for highly qualified employees continues, but nearly a third of the companies participating in the survey are considering layoffs.
The outlook is also extremely “cautious”. The forecast for business conditions in six months has shifted into “clearly negative territory” for the first time this year, IV said. The forecast for earnings over the next six months has also turned negative again after a short break last quarter. Robinson: “There are currently no signs of an industry-driven recovery in Styria.”
