Norway extradites child kidnapping suspect to Finland | Yle News

The Finnish couple were being detained in absentia on charges of kidnapping their child and aggravated deprivation of liberty.

A Finnish couple suspected of kidnapping their child and taking him abroad have been extradited from Norway to Finland.

The suspect is Arrested earlier this weekBut due to the sensitivity of the case, police refused to disclose at the time in which country they were detained.

The couple is believed to have abducted their three children, who had been living in out-of-home social care, from a playground in the town of Ulvila in southwestern Finland on July 1.

On July 4, the Satakunta District Court detained the couple in absentia on charges of kidnapping and severe deprivation of liberty and ordered their continued detention at a hearing on Friday afternoon.

“The children have also been returned to Finland. The suspects were extradited from Norway to Finland yesterday (Thursday) and police have been able to question them,” Detective Chief Insp. Anna Kivimaki Tell reporters.

Couple faces multiple criminal cases

According to Yle, the family has been the focus of several criminal investigations over the past year.

The mother of the family is suspected of several aggravated rapes, while the father faces charges of serious sexual offenses.

Prosecutors are currently considering charges in both cases following the completion of police investigations.

In addition, according to court documents seen by Yle, one of the couple’s children is the suspected victim of a criminal case in which one of the parents is the suspect. The suspected crime came to the attention of authorities last year, but so far the case has not been handed over to prosecutors for trial.

The family’s mother also previously ran a daycare center in a small town in southern Finland.

Yle learned that she had filed a lawsuit against the local government in the Kanthaheime District Court to protest its decision to close the daycare center.
