Nominations open for 27th Basa Awards

“The Basa Awards shines a spotlight on outstanding collaborations between South Africa’s corporate and arts communities, highlighting their important impact on cultural enrichment,” said Basa CEO Ashraf Johaardien. “The Awards shine a spotlight on the transformative potential of cross-industry creative collaborations and their far-reaching societal contributions. At a time when global trends emphasise collaboration and community, the Basa Awards platform seeks to celebrate mutually beneficial partnerships that transcend industry and traditional boundaries,” they explained.

The entries will be evaluated by a jury of experts from the arts and business sectors. Criteria include creativity, innovation, impact, sustainability and the depth of collaboration between participating partners. By entering these awards, entrants have the opportunity to gain national recognition for their contribution to the arts and to showcase their projects to influential leaders in the business and arts worlds.

Basa Chairperson Zingisa Motloba said: “The 27th annual Basa Awards will celebrate the power and importance of collaboration between business and the arts. More than just an awards ceremony, the Awards seek to provide a space conducive to deepening relationships between the various players within the Basa ecosystem. Basa is committed to boldly and intentionally focusing the ingenuity of our creative industries, and this Award celebrates business partnerships that share our vision.”

The categories open for entry are as follows:

  • Beyond Boundaries: This award is given to the partner who builds brand reputation and audience for both parties across borders.
  • Community Development: Recognize NPO/NGO/CBO/PBO support for arts and cultural projects that promote community development.
  • Corporate Social Investment: Recognizes important support for arts and cultural projects that enhance communities.
  • First time sponsor: Awarded for the first time to sponsors supporting the arts.
  • Innovation Award: Celebrating the most innovative, cutting-edge and progressive partnerships.
  • Long-term partnership: Honoring outstanding innovation and dedication to the arts over a long period of time.
  • In-kind sponsorship: Thank you to our sponsors for providing quantifiable and impactful non-monetary support for the arts.
  • SMME Awards: Awarded to micro, small or medium-sized enterprises for their significant support of the arts.
  • Green Award: This category is linked to Barça’s Climate Culture Plan, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 13: Limit and adapt to climate change.

    In addition, two special awards will be given to recognise outstanding contributions to sustainable development of the arts in South Africa:

  • Alumni Award Base: Awarded to the outstanding graduate of Basa’s Debut and/or Cultural Producer Programs.
  • Basa Chairman Award: Recognising South Africa’s ongoing and extraordinary contribution to the arts.
