On Monday, July 22, the Minister of Principal Works, Facilities and Transport, Jordy Chan, who is responsible for air, land and sea transport, came to Mahina to inaugurate the road development project between Ahonu and Orofara.

In addition to restoring stormwater drainage and rehabilitating the road, the project aims to truly improve the daily lives of users through the creation of bicycle paths, the development of three parking lots (including dedicated parking spaces for people with reduced mobility), the safety of intersections and four pedestrian crossings, the development of public transport infrastructure and the installation of urban furniture such as showers, benches and picnic tables. In addition, Ahonu has built a launching ramp dedicated to PRMs, providing them with safe access to the beach.

The project will last eighteen months – Editor’s note: launched under the previous government team – and the cost of the works is 361 million francs, including VAT, of which 70% is borne by the State under the Third Financial Instrument (3IF) and 30% is financed by the State.

The first completed phase is the second phase, which involves the section from Amoe to Ahonu, and is set to start in the first quarter of 2025.

Minister Jodi Chan welcomed the success of the project, which helps provide safety, convenience and comfort to users of the site, which is very popular with families and young surfers, especially on weekends.
