The Country Fire Service is concerned about a series of fires across the west at the weekend.
NFA chief executive Puamau Sowane said in a statement that the Catholic Church in Rawiravi, Ba province was destroyed by fire yesterday.
Sovane said the property belonged to the Roman Catholic Church of Fiji and was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
The estimated amount of damage is $80,000.
Elsewhere, a 60-year-old farmer’s four-bedroom corrugated iron and timber house was destroyed by fire in Mulomulo, Nadi, on Saturday.
Sovane said the fire started in a nearby sugarcane field and quickly spread to the house.
The owner attempted to put out the fire but was unsuccessful.
The estimated damage was about $60,000.
In another incident, the two-bedroom concrete and timber house of a 42-year-old farmer was destroyed in Moala village in Nadi.
The owner was away when the fire broke out.
Neighbors tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.
The estimated loss is $30,000.
He added that the possible causes of those fires are currently being investigated.
