National appreciation ceremony honors 2024 Olympic surfing volunteers

Tahiti, August 16, 2024. This Friday, the President of French Polynesia, Moetai Brotherson, accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Nameha Temarii, and several members of the Government, paid tribute to the volunteers who participated in the successful hosting of the Olympic Games in Tahiti. The hard work and dedication of these volunteers made this event a resounding success. Every hour spent, every smile, every task completed created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all participants and spectators. They are true ambassadors of our island and our spirit of hospitality.

The real face of the Finua Olympics surfing competition, and the heart of the event, are no less than 90 dedicated volunteers who were presented with medals and certificates from the State (PSC1/BAFA) on a ceremonial occasion. So it was time to say thank you.

In addition to thanking Barbara Martins-Nio, head of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee Office, the President of the country also thanked the environmental associations through which “Thanks to her, we were able to review the formats of different infrastructures and we had to pay more attention to the environment”.

He then thanked the French Polynesian Parliament for approving the budget overrun, and finally addressed all the volunteers directly: “We want to salute you, the volunteers of this country, because without you, the celebrations would not be as beautiful, less Polynesian, you allowed us to welcome more than 65,000 people for the various events, the fans area, the torch relay, everything that happened in Arue… Really salute you, popo ia outou”.
As a surprise guest, the volunteers took a photo with Olympic surfing champion Cauley Waster.
