The EU has allocated about 400,000 euros, equivalent to more than 30 million Afghans, to help flood victims in northern Afghanistan.

The humanitarian aid is aimed at providing immediate emergency assistance to victims in Baghlan, Badakhshan and Takhar provinces, the union wrote in a statement today.

It was further stated that the assistance will be provided by its partners ACTED and DACAAR.

Floods in Afghanistan’s northern, northeastern and western provinces in May killed 540 people, Ziauddin Safi, spokesman for the World Food Program in Afghanistan, told Radio Azadi on Monday. Taliban government officials have not officially confirmed this statistic.

Floods occurred in Baghlan Province a few days ago, causing the worst casualties and economic losses.

Dozens of people were also killed in floods in Ghor and Faryab provinces.

People in flooded areas expect aid organizations to provide them with the necessary assistance.
