Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic announced himself online tonight with several questions for the Montenegrin government.
– Why does the government propose: Increase in VAT on hotel accommodation, which could threaten the competitiveness of the tourism industry, which accounts for 30% of the economy? Increase in VAT on food in restaurants, which puts pressure on small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of our economy? Will VAT on online shopping, which is used by thousands of Montenegrin citizens, increase? – the post reads.
The Montenegrin President then added the government’s reasons for making this proposal.
– Increase VAT on books and printed materials, which makes culture and education, the foundation of every society, less accessible? Increase excise taxes on Montenegrin wine, our brand and one of the rare final products we export? And finally, why did the government wait until September to react to the crazy prices? It is necessary to react immediately, he concluded in the announcement.
Why the Government is proposing:
1. Will the increase in VAT on hotel accommodation threaten the competitiveness of the tourism industry, which accounts for 30% of the economy?
2. Will the increase in VAT on restaurant food put pressure on small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of our country’s economy?
