Results of a French survey conducted last March showed that men believe sex is the most reliable path to happiness, while women believe food is the key to finding happiness. Although the French see both sex and food as catalysts for happiness, rating them 7.1 on a scale of 0 to 10, men rated sex at 7.5 and women at a less convincing 6.7. 23% of women also said that food brings them more happiness than sex, a figure that drops to 13% among men.
For both male and female food lovers, chocolate topped the happiness race, followed by cheese, foie gras, seafood, fruit, meat and bread. Women more frequently mentioned chocolate or fruit, while men were more inclined to carnivorous foods, such as foie gras or grilled meat.
When asked to choose between cutting back on food or sex, female respondents were more likely than men to abstain from the latter. For 72% of French people, having a partner who is bad in bed is worse than having a partner who is bad in the kitchen.
