Lulu Thai Airlines leases more aircraft to meet growing demand

Lulu Thai has leased a SAAB 340B aircraft from Air Chathams for three months to strengthen its domestic inter-island services. The 34-seater aircraft arrived in Tonga yesterday and will commence operations this week under Lulu Thai’s Air Operators Certificate.

Tonga’s national airline expects increased passenger demand during the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting in August and the whale watching season from July to October.

Poasi Tei, CEO of Lulutai Airlines, said: “We are delighted to announce this strategic expansion of our fleet. By adding Air Chathams’ aircraft to our network, we are well positioned to handle the significant increase in domestic travel during the peak season. This commitment ensures that we can continue to provide our valued customers with exceptional service and reliable connectivity throughout Tonga.”

Air Chathams previously operated domestic flights in Tonga from 2008 to 2013. Air Chathams Chief Operating Officer Duane Emeny expressed the company’s enthusiasm, saying: “Air Chathams is honoured to have the opportunity to serve the Friendly Islands once again. Many members of our existing airline team remember our time in the Kingdom of Tonga very fondly and look forward to supporting Lulutai Airlines during a very busy period for the airline.
