At just 20 years old, Luana Alonso surprised everyone by announcing her retirement. The Paraguayan athlete made the announcement just minutes after finishing sixth in the 100m butterfly.

Luana wrote a touching post on her Instagram account, expressing her gratitude and sadness at leaving the sport she grew up with. “It’s official! I’m retiring, thank you so much for the support! Sorry Paraguay. I just have to thank you!”the swimmer wrote shortly after her final race.

In a post-fight interview with Claro Sports, Luana shared more details about her decision. “This is not what I wanted. After 18 years, I made the decision to leave. “I sincerely apologize to Paraguay.”“, he said in tears.
