Kenyan journalist Rukia Bulle has been announced as the winner of the 2024 BBC Journalism Komla Dumor Prize.

The 26-year-old is Ninth winner She is the recipient of the award and currently works for Kenya National Media Group, specializing in reporting human rights stories.
“Winning this award means a lot to me. As a journalist, you constantly strive to be the best you can be, whether you are recognized or not, so to be recognized on a global stage through the Komla Dumore Prize is incredibly affirming,” Buller said.
“I hope this award will inspire young girls like me, from ethnic minority communities, wearing the headscarf, to dream big and achieve their dreams.”
Bulle is known for her large following on TikTok, where she shares content about the life of a journalist.
The award was established in memory of Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumore, who died suddenly at the age of 41 while working for BBC World News. This year marks the 10th anniversary of his death.
After more than a decade as a radio presenter in her native Ghana, Komla joined the BBC Africa Service in 2007 and became the presenter of the BBC’s first daily television programme focused on Africa.
