The Democratic Party has formally nominated current US Vice President Kamala Harris as its candidate to succeed Joe Biden in the November presidential election, where he will face Republican Donald Trump.
Harris, whose father is Jamaican and mother is Indian, becomes the first black woman to be nominated as a presidential candidate by one of the two parties that have dominated American politics since the country’s founding in 1776.
The Democratic Party officially nominated the nominee Monday night after releasing the votes for primary delegates in states across the country.
