Joe Biden says he would reevaluate his candidacy if he’s diagnosed with ‘medical issue’

Joe Biden has rejected calls from some Democrats to end his campaign, saying he would only consider retirement if a doctor diagnosed him with a health problem.

“If I have a medical condition, if the doctor comes to me and says, “You have this problem”” Biden said in an interview with BET when asked if there was anything that would make him reevaluate whether to continue running for the White House.

Biden has insisted he is healthy and fit to serve another four years after his disastrous June 27 debate with Trump raised questions about his mental health and sparked calls from Democrats for him to step down.

Biden did not elaborate on what types of medical issues would force him to reassess his reelection campaign.

Biden has undergone three physicals a year during his presidency, each of which involved a neurological exam. In a summary of Biden’s most recent physical in February, his doctor, Kevin O’Connor, reported that Biden had mild arthritis and said Biden was receiving treatment for sleep apnea.

Dr. O’Connor called Biden “an 81-year-old who is healthy, active, strong, and in good health and able to successfully perform the duties of the presidency.”
