The Israeli military said on Monday that Hamas Economy Minister Abed Sariel had been killed in the Gaza Strip. The Sariel was reportedly shot down by the Israeli Air Force on Sunday.
Israel accuses the economy minister of being involved in arms trafficking for the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. He is also alleged to be trying to control humanitarian aid arriving in the Gaza Strip. According to Israel, he will also be responsible for the distribution of fuel, gas and funds for “terrorist” purposes. However, the Israeli military’s claims could not be independently confirmed.
Last Wednesday, Hamas leader Ismaïl Hanieyh (61) was assassinated in a raid on his Tehran residence, an operation Iran blamed on Israel.
Hamas and Tehran have pledged to avenge Ismail Haniyeh, raising concerns about a conflagration in the region during the war in the Gaza Strip.
