From July 6, 2024, the Ramsey Minor Injury Unit (MIU) will be closed at weekends for three months.
This is to best address current staffing challenges while we await the recruitment of additional professional nurse practitioners. The department will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The MIU is staffed primarily by specialist nurses who are trained to work independently and are able to diagnose and treat minor injuries and illnesses. The unit currently faces significant staffing challenges which impacts the delivery of operational services.
While efforts to recruit additional staff are underway, and to ensure Ramsey can safely provide care to service users (while also safeguarding the health and wellbeing of existing staff), the MIU will continue to operate from 8am to 7.30pm Monday to Friday, but will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The change will take effect on July 6, 2024, and is expected to last approximately three months, but may change depending on the progress of the recruitment of new permanent staff. The change was chosen to be implemented on the weekend because the number of patients presenting on weekends is significantly lower, and the department’s X-ray equipment is often not staffed, which means that injured people who need imaging must go to the Noble Hospital Emergency Department.
This coming weekend, MIU Ramsey Campus hours are as follows:
- Saturday, June 29: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday, June 30: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At weekends, service users who normally attend the MIU should call the Manx Emergency Doctors Service (MEDS) on +44 1624 650355 (open 24 hours at weekends) or attend Noble’s Emergency Department. If the situation is life-threatening, call 999.
As on weekdays, after 7:30pm and before 11:30pm, please contact MEDS, go to Noble’s Emergency Department or call 999 if the situation is life-threatening.
