Islamabad assures Beijing of foolproof security for Chinese citizens

Islamabad assured Beijing of providing foolproof security to Chinese nationals working in different projects in Pakistan and reiterated that no one can create discord between the two countries.

Interior Minister Mohammad Naqvi gave the assurance during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong at the Chinese Embassy in the federal capital on Sunday.

The two sides discussed the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehabaz Sharif to China and had a detailed discussion on measures to promote the development of Pakistan-China relations and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.

The Interior Minister said the Prime Minister’s recent visit has strengthened friendship with China, adding that top Chinese leaders have always supported Pakistan.

He informed the Chinese envoy about the measures taken to protect Chinese citizens in Islamabad and other places.

Naqvi also introduced the safety plans for Chinese engineers and staff in projects such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said that to protect the safety of Chinese citizens, a comprehensive and effective standard operating procedure has been formulated and Islamabad is setting up a separate force “SPU” for foreign citizens.

The Interior Minister added that protecting Chinese brothers who are working for Pakistan’s construction and development is the top priority of the Pakistani government.

He said that no one can destroy the eternal friendship between Pakistan and China, and any attempt to undermine the relations between the two countries will never be allowed to succeed.

During the meeting, the Chinese envoy said Pakistan and China are friends and iron-clad brothers and Beijing “attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan”.

The Chinese ambassador expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements to protect Chinese citizens.

Earlier this month, at the invitation of Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid an official visit to China from June 4 to 8.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang and other senior officials, according to a joint statement issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

China reiterates its firm support for Pakistan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, supports Pakistan in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, supports Pakistan in maintaining national security, stability, development and prosperity, supports Pakistan in resolutely combating terrorism, and supports Pakistan in playing a greater role in regional and international affairs.

The two sides also reiterated their “zero tolerance” attitude towards combating all forms of terrorism and agreed to take comprehensive measures to further strengthen counter-terrorism and security cooperation.
