June 18, Kathmandu. Indian player Shat Mishra defeated Nepali player Sadbhav Acharya by 4 strokes to win the 10th Nepal Amateur Open.
On the third and final day of the tournament held at the Gokarna Golf Club, Saudi shot a 3-over 75 to finish at 8-under 208. Nepali player Sadbhav shot a 3-under 69 today to finish second overall at 4-under 212.
Defending champion Sumit Kotwal of India finished third with a five-under-par total of 67 and three-under-par 213.
Saudi Arabia was six strokes ahead of Nepal’s Rahul Vishwakam at the start of the final 18 holes. Rahul had cut his lead to three strokes by the end of four holes. But when Rahul suffered double bogeys on the seventh and ninth holes, he also lost a stroke on the eighth hole, ending his chances of winning.
Saudi finished the front nine at 1-over 37. After saving a stroke each on the third and seventh holes, he bogeyed the second, fourth and eighth holes. The back nine ended at 2-over 38. He bogeyed the 13th, 14th and 17th holes before a birdie attempt on the 12th hole.
Sadabaf finished the first nine holes with a score of 34, 2 under par today. He birdied the third and fifth holes and succeeded with an eagle on the seventh hole. He faced a double bogey on the eighth hole. After that, he caught four birdies on the back nine holes. He saved one stroke each on the 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th holes. But he bogeyed the 12th, 16th and 17th holes, and the score of the back nine holes was 35, 1 under par.
Sumit birdied the third and fifth holes to finish the front nine at 2-under 34. After bogeys, he saved a stroke each at the 11th, 14th and 16th holes and finished the back nine at 3-under 39.
On the women’s side, Sri Lankan player Kaya Daruwat shot 68, 4 strokes under par, and a total score of 210, 6 strokes under par, to win the championship by 11 strokes ahead of Indian player Diya Kris Kumar. Diya finished the last day of competition with a score of 73, 1 strokes over par, and finished second in the total score with a score of 221 strokes over 5 strokes. Anathi Vivek shot 77, 5 strokes over par, and finished third with a score of 228 strokes over 12 strokes.
Kaya finished the first nine holes at 35, 1 under par, with birdies on the first, third and sixth holes and double bogey on the fourth hole. She birdied the 10th and 14th holes and eagled the 11th hole. She bogeyed the 12th hole and finished the back nine at 3-under 33. Anansi finished the first nine holes at 36, even par, with a birdie on the second hole and a bogey on the sixth hole. After that, she bogeyed the 13th hole and double bogeyed the 16th and 18th holes, finishing the back nine at 41, 5 over par.
A total of 65 players from five countries, including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan, including 52 men and 13 women, participated in the three-day 54-hole competition.
The event is organized by the Nepal Golf Association and supported by the National Sports Council, Nepal Tourism Board, Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Royal Singhi Hotel.
Youth and Sports Minister Virajbhakt Shrestha and Union MP Nisha Dangi presented awards to the winners. Minister Shrestha said the government and Nepal Golf Association are working together to take golf to new heights. He also promised to provide land for the golf course soon.
