The Ministry of Health has asked for two days before the end of the month to fill out petitions for vaccine-rejecting patients who have not yet been entered into the system and send them to family health centers, causing more and more reactions.
The president of the Union of Family Medicine Employees (AHESEN), Dr. Ahmed Kandemir, stressed that this demand made it impossible to process thousands of vaccine documents, thousands of pages of paper and reach thousands of people. “This request was made two days before the end of the month, resulting in many of our colleagues having their progress payments cut before the holidays, even though they had sent complete documents,” said Dr. Kandemir, who said that healthcare workers are victims.
Dr. Kandemir said patients who refuse the vaccine are expected to have to re-issue documentation and be recalled to the facility, which cannot be done in just two days. He added: “If patients do not come in during this period or doctors and nurses take vacation, family medicine staff benefits can be cut based on decisions made at their desks.”
Dr. Kandırılı said many family doctors, especially those from different regions of Istanbul, experienced financial difficulties before the holidays. Kandırılır said that while every department received holiday bonuses, family medicine employees faced unfair cuts.
“Deficiencies exacerbate the problem”
Dr. criticized the fact that refusals of vaccination are increasing, all the blame is placed on family medicine employees, and there are not enough legal provisions for refusing vaccination. “As if that were not enough, the salaries of our colleagues were also cut before the holidays,” said Kandemir.
“Fix this mistake”
In an open appeal to the provincial health director, Dr. Ahmed Kandemir said: “Return from this mistake immediately. Cancel the deduction for family medicine employees. Otherwise, as AHESEN, we will not drop this matter from a legal perspective. Because of the case we won, you are not only causing financial losses to the department, but also creating unnecessary workload for our already busy colleagues and stealing citizens’ time,” he said. “No one has the right to waste the state’s financial and service resources in this way.”
Dr. Kandemir said they hope the Ministry of Health will step in to resolve the issue and stressed that the rights of family medicine practitioners should be protected.
