Urh Prosen, a future hairdresser, had a real surprise for his 18th birthday. In addition, the young man from Kranj also impressed with his hair creations at the school fashion show.
Urh Prosen has been a big fan of singer Špela Grošelj since the beginning of the band Atomik Harmonik, and this year his mentor Nastja Vešligaj at the Kranj Hair Salon surprised him with a special birthday present. She gave him a ticket to a concert in Krško, where Grošleva also performed, and the man from Kranj was allowed into the VIP room backstage, where he also took a selfie with the pop singer. “Since we haven’t seen Špele Grošelj perform so much recently, this birthday present is even more valuable,” Urh Prosen excitedly said. He was also pleasantly surprised by the warm reception of the singer, who he has been following more since her appearance on the popular show Zvezde plejejo, and he was also happy to see her appear on the commentary show Married at Second Eyes.
This year, the man from Kranj finished his third year at the Ljubljana Hairdressing High School, but he is thinking about continuing his studies and getting a fifth level of education. “I would get higher education, I would learn more about hair cutting and hair coloring techniques, I would get more knowledge about my profession,” he says. However, he laughs that at first he didn’t even think about being a hairdresser. When he had to decide where to go next after primary school, he hesitated between media, education and the Hairdressing High School. His success in this year’s Hairdressing magazine at the end of the school year further confirmed that he made the right decision. “All third-year students in our school can apply, then the professors select the twelve best ones, they present their hairstyle collections in the magazine, and the committee selects the best ones. The famous hairdresser Stevo was also among the commissioned, and besides me, another male and female student from Gorenjski also participated in the magazine,” Prosen explains. “The theme of this year’s Hairdressing Fashion Show is world travel,” he continues. “At first I thought of Argentinian, Spanish-style hairstyles, but then I decided on Japanese ones. I wanted to explore a more distant, lesser-known world outside of Europe.” He presents five hairstyles, two of which are traditional, elegant braided geisha hairstyles, and in the second part of the series he emphasizes his creative side by showing slightly different modern geishas – more European than what he says. “The hairstyle is round, which in Japanese culture represents the connection between the beginning and the end of life, stability and closure. He also designs more modern hairstyles with the help of geometric shapes, foam, different color tones, artificial hair, wire, etc.
The young hairdressing expert believes that if you are different, bold and out of the box, you will definitely be more noticed by the audience. And in this year’s magazine, his collection was also loved by the organizing committee and became the best of all the exhibited works. His mentor is Marko Zagar. “I put a lot of effort into my presentations and this will not change in the future. I want to stay in the hairdressing industry and continue to explore the creative and artistic world of this profession,” says Urh Prosen, who is committed to practice almost every day and learns very quickly – learning from the biggest names in Slovenian hairdressing or their students.
