Since the heat did not leave Lithuania, not only all living things suffered from the abnormally high temperatures, but even the streets and roads could not bear it.
At high temperatures, their coating begins to melt.
The hot weather has been going on for a while now, forcing experts to take a closer look at the “sweating” asphalt on city streets and regional roads every day.
Dalius Vadluga, the head of the city’s urban infrastructure department, said that so far, everything has gone well: street surfaces have not become too hot to require cooling measures.
“At the moment, the asphalt is still strong, it melted in places last year,” the presenter recalled.
However, he did not rule out the possibility that street surfaces might need to be saved this week to keep them from melting.
