context
Zimbabwe remains a country of high priority for the UK Government. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Zimbabwe made significant progress in areas covered by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs consist of eight specific targets that focus efforts on ending global poverty and promoting human development by 2015. However, the economic, political and humanitarian crises that have plagued Zimbabwe in the 21st century have hampered the development of this landlocked southern African country and in some cases reversed these advances. The Plan and its September 2014 update reflect close consultation with other UK Government departments, particularly the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in the development and implementation of the programme.
