Netball tournament at Naledi Funeral a huge success

The City Eagles Tennis Club successfully hosted a two-day African Women’s Month commemorative tennis tournament last weekend.

The championship, held at the Lehakoe Recreation Centre grounds, celebrates female excellence, strength and resilience.

The tournament attracted 31 teams from Lesotho and South Africa competing for honors in three categories: Women (13 teams), Men (6 teams) and Women’s Juniors (12 teams).

The South African Leopards performed well and made it difficult for the local team to deal with, and they won the women’s championship.

That was after beating LDF 20-9 in the final.

On the other hand, LMPS occupied the first podium spot in the men’s competition by defeating Leseli Tigers 20-18 in the final.

Leqele First Number team defeated sister team Leqele Development team 21-10 in the junior final to become the junior champions.

The winners of the men’s and women’s categories received an M1 200 and a trophy respectively.

The runner-up received a silver medal and an M800.

The junior champions won the M500 and gold medals, while the second-place team won the M300 and silver medals.

Naledi Funeral Planners sponsored 50,000 Bangladeshi marks for the tournament.

In acceptinglesotho times This week, City Eagles manager Matšepo Mohau expressed her excitement about the tournament’s success and crowd numbers.

“We are very pleased with the event, which was a great success and exceeded our expectations,” said Mohau.

She said they are considering making it an annual event as more sponsors have expressed interest in joining next year.

Mohau said their event will be even bigger in 2025 as they attract more sponsors.

Lelonia said her company is committed to promoting the development of sports.

“We believe that sports is a marginalized sector, so as one of the private sector players, we want to invest in sports and help it develop,” Leronia said.

“We also want to focus on women, to make them feel uplifted and empowered. We want to encourage them to start playing different sports, so we support this event.”
