Commvibe, powered by Mediamark, has signed exclusive partnerships with three of South Africa’s top community radio stations: Zibonele FM and Bok Radio in the Western Cape, and Thetha FM in Gauteng.

With 73%* of the population listening to radio weekly, regardless of their socio-economic background, community radio stations play an important civic role in the media landscape. Commvibe is rapidly expanding its representation and reach among these sought-after audiences.
“Community radio stations play an important role in providing vital information, education and entertainment to local communities,” said Mervyn Naidu, Head of Business Development. “As many of these stations broadcast in local languages, they also foster a strong sense of trust and authenticity in their listeners, which is what radio is all about,” Naidu continued.
Zibonele FM broadcasts from the Khayelitsha region and is South Africa’s first official community radio station, licensed in 1995. Content focuses on health, news, technology, entertainment, youth and local community events. Zibonele FM has won several awards, making it one of the most recognisable media brands in community radio today. Zibonele has been voted the most listened to community radio station in the Western Cape*.

Bok Radio began broadcasting in 2019 in and around the Northern Suburbs of the Western Cape. It resonates with the culture and rich traditions of its listeners, hosting sold-out events and shows. Bok Radio is regarded as a station that “goes above and beyond”, with an active presence both on the ground and online. Bok Radio is one of the top five most listened-to community radio stations in the Western Cape*.
Thetha FM began broadcasting in 2003 from a secondary school in Orange Farm, Gauteng. The station’s mission is to provide informative and inspiring content and programming that promotes primary healthcare and community revitalization, among other things, and celebrates diversity across cultural boundaries. Today, Thetha FM is known as one of Gauteng’s most successful community platforms and the second most popular community radio station in Gauteng*.
“Mediamark and Commvibe’s exclusive agreement demonstrates their commitment to providing high-quality media partnerships and solutions. Additionally, these partnerships will increase social pride and investment in these communities.”
“Mediating the intersection between advertisers and community radio has been a rewarding journey so far. Our exclusive agreement marks a milestone of generosity and inclusivity, led by a shared purpose, as we work to foster a vibrant community radio environment that benefits our industry,” added CEO Wayne Bischoff.
