The Città dell’aria Association, created in 2021, brings together Italian municipalities with historical, cultural, sporting or economic links to the world of aviation, to encourage the development of recreational and sport flying in order to promote tourism and the development of the region. At the request of the State Secretariat for Tourism, the Republic of San Marino has issued a postal stamp specifically for this project. San Marino, through its Aero Club, becomes the second signatory of “Città dell’aria”. The project aims to identify and define the role that small airports, airstrips and airstrips can play in the promotion of tourism and the territory. San Marino is interested in developing air tourism and the project for the development of the runway at Toracia Airport has now been approved. The series of postal events involves the Aero Club of San Marino, the Aero Club of Italy, the Pilots Association and the Municipalities of Castiglione del Lago, Magione and Passignano sul Trasimeno.
Four values were created, all starting from 1.25 EUR.
The first stamp depicts an illustration of an airplane in flight, with the First Tower in the background and the emblem of the Aeroclub of San Marino at the bottom (completion value “1.25”, “San Marino”, coat of arms of the Republic, legend “City in the sky: Aeroclub San Marino”, name of the sketch artist and the year 2024). The second value shows an illustration of a seaplane flying over Lake Trasimeno and the coat of arms of the municipalities of Castiglione del Lago, Magione and Passignano sul Trasimeno at the bottom (completion value “1.25”, “San Marino”, coat of arms of the Republic, legend “City in the sky: Castiglione del Lago, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno”, name of the sketch artist and the year 2024).
The third stamp represents an illustration of an airplane flying over the Italian peninsula, with the Piloti di Classe logo at the bottom (finish value “1.25”, “San Marino”, coat of arms of the Republic, the legend “Città” dell’aria: Piloti di Classe”, the name of the artist who sketched the picture and the year 2024).
The fourth value reproduces a view of the plane flying over the Italian plains, with the logo of the Aero Club d’Italia at the bottom (finish value “1.25”, “San Marino”, the coat of arms of the Republic, the legend “City in the sky: Aero Club d’Italia”, the name of the sketch artist and the year 2024).
The flap on the left side of the paper features the legend “Città dell’aria”, a short text about the Città dell’aria project, the logo of the Città dell’aria Association and a QR code.
The initiative will be presented to the media at a meeting on June 17 at 12 noon at the headquarters of the San Marino Aero Club in Toracia.
