On Tuesday, September 3, the Republic of San Marino celebrates its anniversary, a day full of events between tradition and entertainment. On September 3, the celebrations will begin at 10 am in the Basilica, where His Excellency Domenico Beneventi, Bishop of the diocese, will celebrate a solemn mass in the presence of the Most Excellent Regent Captain Marino; immediately afterwards, a procession with the relics of the Saint will pass through the streets of the town. Then, at 10.30 am, in the streets of the historic center, there will be a reading of the Bando dei Balestrieri, announcing the Palio delle Balestre Grandi, which will be held in the afternoon in honor of the Holy Founder. At 2.30 pm, a historical procession composed of crossbowmen, ladies, standard-bearers, musicians and characters dressed in splendid medieval costumes will set out from Porta San Francesco; throughout the day you can meet characters in period costume in the splendid setting of the Second Tower and the rooms of the Museum of Ancient Arms. At 3 pm, the blessing of the saint’s relics will take place in the Basilica of the Saint, and the crossbowmen will pray to the patron saint; at 3.30 pm, flag games, musicians and characters; upon arrival at Cava dei Balestrieri, representatives of the nine castles of the Republic will participate in the Palio delle Balestre Grandi, an exciting competition in which the best archers in San Marino will compete, at the end of which the national champion will be announced. At 5 pm, Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica of the Saint, with the blessing of the saint’s relics; from 5.15 pm, the historical procession will take place in the central area. At 5.30 pm, the Military Band of the Republic of San Marino will perform in Piazza Liberty, conducted by Maestro Lieutenant Stefano Gatta, who will play some famous songs taken from the world of cinema. After the concert, at 7pm, the much-anticipated tombola draw will take place in Piazzale Lo Stradone: the first tombola will have a prize of €15,000, the second €7,500 and the fifth €2,500. Bingo cards will be sold that morning until 6.30pm in the historic centre or at the Teatro Titano.

As usual, the day ends with a very important musical event. At the Bruno Reffi camp, Luca Barbarossa will take the stage accompanied by the Social Band, composed of drummer and percussionist Meki Marturano, keyboardist and wind instrument player Alessio Graziani, bassist Emanuele Ciampichetti and guitarist Claudio Trippa. It will be a fascinating musical journey through the rich repertoire of Luca Barbarossa, and the concert will offer the public the opportunity to review the important stages of his career, starting with the first songs that made him an icon of Italian music in the 80s, up to the latest works contained in the latest album of unreleased songs, The Truth of Love, published last autumn, where Barbarossa sings of love for freedom, truth, justice, but above all a love far from clichés. Admission is free: the proceeds from the evening will go towards the creation of a social and cultural initiative within the facilities of the “La Fiorita” residential care centre for the elderly in San Marino.

After the show, a spectacular fireworks display will bring the celebration to a perfect end.
