After weeks of intense competition and several thrilling rounds, Carine van Zyl, a sales representative from Bloemfontein, became the final listener of THE 38 and won the grand prize of R38,000 in cash on 23 August 2024!
OFM, or The Voice of Your Life, celebrates its 38th anniversary on the air with “THE 38”, an exciting quiz testing contestants’ knowledge of Central South Africa and the radio station in general.
Initially, viewers were shown only 36 contestants, leaving them to guess when the remaining contestants would appear. Over the course of the competition, the field was whittled down through daily quiz challenges until only two remained: Van Zyl and Madeleine Badenhorst, also from Bloemfontein.
It was then announced that a wildcard contestant would join these two contestants as the third finalist. Two new contestants were selected from the contestants, and previously eliminated Jenine Tongha was given the opportunity to re-enter the competition and compete for the last spot on Thursday.
Tongha, Van Zyl and Badenhorst thus became the top three finalists in the exciting finals of Good Morning Breakfast on Friday. After a fierce battle of wits, Van Zyl finally won the THE 38 quiz championship.
OFM congratulated her on her achievement and thanked all the participants and audience for making the anniversary celebration memorable.

During the Q&A session, Van Zyl excitedly shared her desire to become a mother: “We’ve been trying to get pregnant for seven years, and the only way I could get pregnant was through IVF. So I want to use the prize money to try to have a child.”
