After Rohit Sharma XI won the 2024 T20 World Cup, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah announced a bonus of INR 125 crore for the Blue Shirts who beat South Africa by 7 runs in the thrilling final.
Jay Shah wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I am happy to announce that Team India will receive a prize money of INR 125 crore for winning the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
“The team displayed extraordinary talent, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff on this outstanding achievement,” he added.

On the other hand, he also praised the party for having “silenced” its critics.
“Under the brilliant leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team showed extraordinary determination and resilience to become the first team in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup to win the title unbeaten,” Shah said in a statement.
“Time and again, they have faced criticism with flying colours and silenced their critics. Their journeys are nothing short of inspiring and today, they join the ranks of the greats,” he added.
He also praised the team’s strong work ethic.
He concluded, “The dedication, hard work and perseverance of this team makes us all proud. Led by Rohit Sharma and ably assisted by Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others, they have fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians.”
India joins England and West Indies as two-time T20 World Cup champions, having won their first title in 2007 by defeating Pakistan in the final.
India was almost doomed to fail but Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya helped Rohit Sharma’s side turn the tide in the 16th and 17th overs.
Chasing the target, South Africa got off to a tough start, losing the wickets of Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram, but Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs combined for 68 runs to put South Africa back in the driver’s seat.
South Africa were in full control as Heinrich Klaasen bowled Axar Patel for 22 runs in the 15th over.
South Africa finished the match at 169-8 in the stipulated innings. For India, Pandya scored three runs, Arshdeep and Bumrah scored two runs, and Patel scored one run.
Earlier in the first innings, Virat Kohli top-scored for India as he scored 76 runs off 59 balls with six fours and two sixes.
