This non-political, non-partisan, non-sectarian award, conceived, desired and organized by the USGI, the Union of Journalists and Photojournalists of San Marino, is dedicated to the former President and was awarded today in the splendid setting of the Casa della Musica in the Contrada del Academy of the City of San Marino, the dear Alberto Rino Cecchi, who passed away too soon.
The name of the competition is “Alberto Rino Cecchi Award – Free and accurate information” and will make it its permanent focus to defend and respect free information disseminated to users and readers in an ethically correct manner.
The award is sponsored by USGi – Union of Journalists and Photographers of San MarinoThe San Marino Press Association, whose statutory purpose is the protection of journalists, free and correct information, is guaranteed and promoted by the Charter of Human Rights, as well as the values and principles defended in the context of international associations that recognize this category and that have USGi as its members and representatives.
The main purpose of the award is therefore to promote the values that dear Alberto Chezzi always believed in and pursued during his tenure at the helm of the Association. In fact, his commitment to protecting freedom of information, freedom of the press and freedom of criticism has always been firm.
During his presidency, we remembered the work and commitment of the American Geographical Society under his leadership to discuss the new Press Law, as well as his commitment to giving the Society an international presence as a member of the International Federation of Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists and the EFJ, the European Federation of Journalists, of which the USGI is a full member.
Subsequently, Alberto’s impulse led to a collaboration agreement with the Italian National Federation of the Press and the San Marino Information Commission. The award is therefore also intended to mark the association’s new and ongoing commitment to achieving its statutory objectives.
Usgi is therefore pleased to present this initiative and warmly thanks Alberto’s family, especially his wife Lorena and daughter Matilde. Category.
Two prizes will be awarded:
– San Marino Award in the category Journalism
– Italian Award in the category Journalism
The prizes include Alberto’s sculpture “L’Ala” and one thousand euros in cash each.
Registration is open to professional journalists, publicists, practitioners registered in RSM and Italy, authors of articles, audio or video published in paper or “online” newspapers, competent authorities (including press agencies, departments and specialized agencies) and any other means of information. The works must have been published between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. The awards ceremony is scheduled for April 2025, which will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the American Legion Association.
