A runner from Madrid died after falling about a hundred meters during a mountain race in Asturias

A 62-year-old Madrid resident died this Saturday after falling about a hundred meters while participating in the tenth race. ‘EDP De Saffosa Miedo’the National Guard reported.

The deceased athlete took part in the 46.8km MDS category race, one of three events in the sporting event, according to a statement released by the organizers, who have decided to suspend the event, which saw the participation of around 800 runners.

The Armed Forces Academy explained that after receiving the coordinates, the troops moved to the vicinity of Torresto and then continued on foot to the location where the body of the runner was located, as the heavy fog made it impossible to obtain helicopter support.

Civil Guard experts chose to remove the body on a stretcher and transfer it by vehicle to the town of León, and from there to the Oviedo Institute of Legal Medicine.
