Thanks to a generous donation of a USS/MRI fusion machine for transperineal prostate biopsy from the Manning Cancer Support Group, the Isle of Man Care Centre is now ranked alongside the most advanced urology centres in the UK and the world.
The state-of-the-art machine will have a major impact on the quality of services for prostate cancer patients, allowing the team to pinpoint cancerous lesions, making it easier to find sites to perform biopsies.
The project was made possible by a generous donation from the Mannin Cancer Support Group and the Tevir Group also generously sponsored the cost of maintaining the equipment for three years.
The machine was tested and formally trained before its inauguration ceremony at Noble Hospital last week and will be operational from July 3, 2024. Currently, the machine is functioning well and it is expected that more than 200 patients per year will benefit from this development.

“We can’t express enough how grateful we are to the Mannin Cancer Support Group and the Tevir Group and everyone who has championed this cause for their continued support – this machine works like a dream and will benefit a large number of patients over the coming years. We are proud to be ranked alongside state-of-the-art urology centres – it is a huge achievement for Manx Care.”
Julie Stokes, Chair of the Mannin Cancer Support Group, added:
“We would like to thank everyone who helped us purchase this fantastic piece of equipment. The unit cost just under £180,000 and this would not have been possible without the help of the Tevir Group, who funded the maintenance costs over three years.
“With this equipment on the island, many patients do not have to travel to the UK for prostate cancer diagnosis and staging. Over 200 patients on the island benefit each year. I would like to thank Mr Baher Hussein (Consultant Urologist), his team and Manx Care for all their help.”
