Commission Chairman Martin Kreutner, presenting the report on Monday, said the findings were “positive” because they were accurate on all the points mentioned. In secret meetings with acquaintances in bars, Pilnacek reported on attempts by the ÖVP to influence the investigation. “The Austrian judicial system is basically a very good system,” Kreutner said before the “findings” were made public. But according to the commission, it is clear that there is a “two-tier judicial system”. A lack of distance from politics and the media was also noted, as was a sometimes very frustrating level of authority.
