Pick n Pay donates R100,000 to aid communities affected by Storm WCape

Pick n Pay has donated R100,000 as emergency aid to help communities affected by the devastating storms in the Western Cape.

Stores have been mobilizing employees to help local communities in need. They have also set up daily food stations to ensure displaced people have access to nutritious meals, which will be distributed to the worst-hit areas.

Additionally, Pick n Pay has opened all of its stores in the region as drop-off points for donated supplies. The retailer is rallying community support to provide much-needed relief to communities affected by the disaster.

Customers can donate non-perishable food items, toiletries, clothing and blankets at any Pick n Pay store in the Western Cape. Donations can also be made to Feed the Nation Foundation at any Pick n Pay checkout nationwide or via the QR code provided.

Vaughan Pierce, Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) at Pick n Pay, said: “We are committed to doing everything we can to support our communities during this challenging time and we know our customers are too. Our store managers have been inundated with requests for help. It has been incredible to witness the power of solidarity during this time and Pick n Pay will always be a place where the community can turn to for support.”

The extreme weather conditions have left many families displaced and in urgent need of assistance. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has raised the warning level to Level 8 for Thursday, July 11, 2024, with further heavy rainfall and strong winds expected.

“We are calling on everyone to join us in supporting those affected by the strong winds and flooding in many parts of the region. Your donation will make a big difference to so many lives,” added Pierce.

Pick n Pay will continue to coordinate with local disaster management teams and non-profit organizations in the coming days to distribute all donations to those in need.
