Every marketer knows that content is king, now more than ever, especially in the age of social media and short videos. But why exactly? Brands must keep up with tech-savvy and information-rich consumers. Consumers are always online, actively engaged, and seeking to build authentic, engaging, and personal relationships with brands.

This modern form of “word of mouth” marketing has grown dramatically – a 2023 Entribe survey found that a whopping 4/5 consumers are more likely to trust a brand that shares UGC, while only 12% are likely to buy a product promoted by an influencer. Short-form video in particular is leading the way – marketers and consumers alike appreciate this format as being authentic, cost-effective, and engaging.
No one understands this better than Scott Thwaites, one of this year’s Nedbank IMC International keynote speakers. Scott will take to the stage on September 19 to present his related topic, “Redefining Influence: The Power of Everyday Content”.
Scott is the founder of Dubai-based EDC squared, an innovation organization dedicated to unlocking the power of everyday content. With experience at the forefront of TikTok and Twitter, Scott realised the urgent need for brands to revolutionise the way they engage with their audiences, especially in the short-form video space.
“It’s a two-way process – on one hand, we focus on providing everyday content creators with opportunities to connect with brands and be rewarded for quality content. On the other hand, we help brands build and nurture these relationships so they can leverage the impact, authenticity and scale of this content,” Scott explained.
Scott was one of five international marketing leaders attending Africa’s largest marketing conference.
The National Bank of South Africa IMC Conference will be held in the Focus Rooms, Modderfontein, Johannesburg https://focusrooms.co.za/ September 19, 2024.

The annual Nedbank IMC conference is Africa’s premier integrated marketing conference. The Integrated Marketing Council (IMC) believes that marketing is business© and deserves a seat in the boardroom. With more CMOs, senior marketers and agency leaders in attendance than any other conference in Africa, the conference is relevant to everyone in the communications industry.
The conference, which features 15-minute presentations a day (with some exceptions), is known for its strong global agenda without sales pitches.
Nedbank IMC is held in association with MASA, in partnership with ACA, in partnership with DMASA and endorsed by the IAB. The 2024 theme is “Challenge Yourself. Keep Learning. Stay Ahead”, which is relevant to anyone in the communications industry.
