The Belize U23 women’s volleyball team won three straight games at the 6th Central American U-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship held at the Jorge Galeano Stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The team left the country on Friday, June 21, to compete in a round-robin format from Sunday, June 23 to Saturday, June 29. All seven Central American countries will participate: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Belize.

After losing to Guatemala on Sunday (2-3) and Nicaragua on Monday (1-3), Belize managed to find their form and on Tuesday, on the third day of the tournament, they won their first ever against defending champions Costa Rica (3-1). Following this win, yesterday (Wednesday), they defeated Honduras (3-1), which was Honduras’ first loss of the tournament, as they had been unbeaten before the match against Belize.
Belize outscored Honduras in all facets of the game, outscoring Honduras 52-33 on offense, 9-6 on blocks, and 9-3 on serves. Belize had three players score in double figures, with Fatoumata Cámara scoring 23 points, Nisan Martinez scoring 18 points, and Gareth Bruce scoring 13 points.

Today (Thursday), at press time, Belize reportedly easily defeated winless Panama to make it three straight wins with a three-set win (3-0).
Belize will have a day off tomorrow, Friday, and will play their final match against El Salvador on Saturday, June 29.
