The Government has moved to convert the National Health Insurance (NHI) program into a statutory body. This week, Cabinet approved the repeal of the section of the Social Security Act (Chapter 44) that lists NHI as part of social security. Following approval, legislation will be introduced to establish the National Health Insurance Agency under the Office of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance. Also approved at this week’s Cabinet meeting was a one-time investment of BZD 1 million in the citrus industry. According to the Cabinet Secretary, the money will be used to purchase fertilizers for the orchards to increase production.
