Late booking

It’s true that you can get a cruise at a great price if you book at the last minute. But these days, those opportunities are much harder to come by, thanks to sophisticated computer algorithms that do a great job of adjusting prices to get bookings done earlier.

Book early – bookings are open now. Prices will be the lowest then.

Don’t ask for an upgrade

After the pandemic, many ships have lower capacity, so there are often more empty cabins. People often feel nervous when looking for higher-class cabins, but if the cabins are not full at the time of departure, these cabins will remain empty.

When you arrive, speak to the front desk staff to find out about available room upgrades. If you’re here for a special occasion, such as a big anniversary or honeymoon, be sure to mention this – even if you can’t get an upgrade, they’ll find other ways to make your trip extra special.

Internet on cruise ships can be overpriced and unreliable. That’s because ocean liners have to use satellite systems to connect to the internet, which are slower and more prone to losing service. And expect to pay for the privilege of slower service — older ships still sell internet by the minute.

But nothing related to your health or other travel issues is covered.

You are too far from the ship.

While it’s great to go ashore and find your own adventure, too many guests end up losing track of time or distance and end up waving goodbye to the ship from shore. If this happens, you’ll have to find your own way to your cruise ship’s next port of call.

You underestimated the strength of the sea waves

Whenever you are out on the boat, hold on tight if you are moving around; if you are stowing your belongings, put them in a ziplock bag attached to a chair or table, or tie them down.
