UN begins polio vaccination campaign in Gaza amid war

“These are the first hours of the first phase of a massive relief operation, one of the most complex the world has ever seen,” said Juliette Touma, communications director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

“Today is a test of whether the parties to the conflict respect the ceasefire in these areas so that UNRWA teams and other medical staff can get these two very precious drops of medicine to the children. It’s a race against time,” Touma told Reuters.
