Ante Radonj (born 1951) from Korula is known for his long career at the Technical Museum in Zagreb, where he has been director of the planetarium since 1972. He has published more than 300 articles in various publications and given more than 500 public lectures, as well as numerous appearances on radio and television. Since 1996 he is also the co-author of the popular TV series “Andromeda”.
What are the Tears of Saint Lawrence?
The expression “Holy Tears” Lovre’ is a simple name for the Perseid meteor shower, the radiant of which is located in the constellation Perseus. In fact, it became popular only in the last fifty years, mainly in Dalmatia, where it was introduced from Italy. This is not true, but about the fact that the famous Italian poet Giovanni Pascolli in the 19th century sang in the song “10 Agosto” about the anniversary of his father’s death, and the falling meteor at that time reminded him of that time.
The Perseid meteor shower is visible from July 25 to August 20, but the greatest activity occurs around Memorial Day in the St. Lawrence.
