The nominees for the prestigious Eugenio Espejo National Award 2024 have been selected.
But unlike previous years, only the names of the winners will be announced this time.
The Ministry of Culture and Heritage of the Republic of Ecuador reported on Monday, July 22, the current status of the selection process, in accordance with the provisions of Agreement No. MCYP-MCYP-2022-0039-A, which regulates the instructions for the formation of the shortlist.
Pursuant to Article 3 of the Agreement, a Selection Committee was established, consisting of:
1. The Committee shall be chaired by the Minister of Culture and Heritage or his delegate.
2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility or his representative.
3. The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation or his/her delegate.
4. Benjamín Carrión, National President of the Palace of Culture of Ecuador or his representative.
5. A representative of the Citizens’ Committee for the Culture and Heritage Sector, elected by simple majority.
The committee has completed the selection process for the shortlist for each award category.
All members of the committee, including its secretary, signed confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, thus ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the selection process.
Likewise, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage has submitted the list of selected candidates to the President of the Republic for his information and consideration.
The next stage of the process consists of the announcement of the winners of the 31st “Eugenio Espejo” National Award, which will take place this year on August 9, coinciding with Culture Day.
