“We will certainly restore our former reputation in Paris.”

South Korea’s national shooting team, which will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, expressed confidence that it will be on the podium. The South Korean shooting team aims to win one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal.

On the 27th, the Korea Shooting Federation held the “National Shooting Team Media Day” at the Champions House of the National Team Athletes Village in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province.

The event was attended by General Manager Fang Shizhenghao (IBK Industrial Bank of Korea) in 25m rapid-fire pistol, Lee Eun-seo (Seosan City Hall) in 50m rifle, Kim Ye-ji (Imsil County Hall) in 10m air pistol and 25m pistol, and Hyojin Ban (Imsil County Government) in 10m air rifle.

South Korea’s shooting has won numerous medals in every Olympic Games.

From winning his first medal (1 silver and 1 bronze) at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he has won a total of 17 medals (7 gold, 9 silver, and 1 bronze) until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. His best performance was at the 2012 London Olympics, when Kim Jong-oh won 2 gold medals and Kim Jong-mi won 5 medals (3 gold and 2 silver).

However, in the most recent Tokyo Olympics, she only won one silver medal (Women’s 25m pistol, Kim Min-jung). This competition is a stage that must be fierce.

The shooting team held a total of 5 domestic trials from March to last month, and 14 people have confirmed their participation. Each country has received 15 places, and one player has not yet been determined. The final list will be determined based on future ranking points.

South Korea’s “ace” Kim Ye-ji will participate in both the 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events, and the mixed team list has not yet been determined.

Kim Tae-ho, vice president of the Korea Athletic Federation, said, “A gold medal in this Paris Olympics is absolutely necessary” and “We will become a sport that is loved by the people.”

Shooting team coach Gap-seok said, “South Korea’s shooting level has somewhat stagnated compared to before,” but added, “We will use the Paris Olympics as an opportunity to restore our previous reputation.”

The player who stood out was Kim Ye-ji. Kim Ye-ji is the only athlete who has competed in both events and she set a new world record for women’s 25m pistol at the ISSF Baku World Cup held this year. She is a strong candidate for the gold medal.

“The Baku World Cup was the stage where I achieved my best results since I started shooting,” said Kim Ye-ji. “This record is quite good and it is the result of my hard work so far,” he said.

“There is nothing left to improve,” he said, adding, “My goal is to continue what I have been doing so far until the Olympics. As long as you put in as much effort as possible, the results will follow naturally. “I am confident of a medal,” he stressed.

South Korean rapid-fire pistol star Song Jong-ho is also aiming to win a medal in this competition. Last year, he won a silver medal in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

“This is my second time participating in the Olympics after Tokyo,” Song said. “With many trials, errors and experiences so far, I will not miss out on a medal at the Paris Olympics,” he said.

Pan Xiaozhen, born in 2007, is the only high school shooting athlete who will participate in the 10m air rifle event. Pan Xiaozhen, who started shooting in July 2021 at the recommendation of a friend when she was a sophomore in junior high school, has attracted attention in less than three years for wearing the Tai Chi logo.

The Football Association said, “A surprising new star emerged in the national team trials. “Our goal is to be the ‘second Yeo Gap-soon, Kang Cho-hyun,'” he said.

Ban Hyo-jin said, “I took it easy to participate in the national team trials to gain experience, but the result was unexpected, so I joined the national team with a grateful heart,” and expressed her bold determination, saying, “If you do what you are supposed to do, medals will follow.”

The Korean shooting team plans to improve its competitiveness by participating in the Munich World Cup in Germany and the Lonato World Cup (June) starting on the 29th. After that, they will cool down in Korea before leaving for France, the venue for the final, on July 12. The competition will start on the 27th local time with the 10m air rifle mixed event.
