Kathmandu, June 28. Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakasharan Mahat said they will propose to the President to appoint UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Pushkamal Dahal said this in response to questions from media personnel in the Parliament building just after he stepped down. Spokesperson Mahat also claimed that according to Article 76, paragraph 2 of the Constitution, there is no problem for Oli to serve as prime minister.

He said: “We have said that we will support Oliji in the first phase. We are committed to that. Based on that, where will our proposal be submitted to the President?

He believes that since there is a consensus among the largest parties, there is no problem for Oli to become the prime minister according to 76 (2). Spokesperson Mahat also said that the party will select ministers after the government formation process.

“The sovereign parliament is decided by the members elected by the people of Nepal. And can this decision be said to be made from outside? They will be accused wherever they are. In Nepal, there is nothing to blame. This is delusional, whimsical and baseless,” he said.

Spokesman Mahat also claimed that there was no truth in Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s allegation that the new balance of power between the Congress and the ML was caused by external forces.
