The problems caused by water shortages are enormous in some parts of the country, such as the mountainous village of Kalavryta, which has had little snow and almost no rain this year.
A typical example is the village of Gerbesi, 1,050 metres above sea level in Kalavrita, where water has run out due to scarcity and residents can only fill their bottles from one source.
“We have no water here. There is no water to irrigate, wash or extinguish the nearby hills”, a resident told SKAI about the prevailing situation in the area.

“The taps produce drinking water, but the quantity is relatively small. The only well in the village does not produce water, so we are facing serious problems,” said another resident.
“It’s neither raining nor snowing. They bring water in buckets and tanks, but it’s not even enough for a shower,” stressed other residents about the lack of water in Kalavrita.
“We don’t waste water at home. We don’t wash anything, we don’t water, we only use it for bathing and washing clothes,” added another person who lives in the area.
