Water pollution in Europe: Sewage flowing into rivers making people sick

An Nÿs and her children love swimming in their local canal on the outskirts of Ghent, Belgium, so much that they’re willing to put up with one unfortunate drawback: If they accidentally swallow some of the water, it can cause stomach aches.

“They know they have to keep their mouth shut,” Ness said. “If you can bring your kids here and swim and they don’t get diarrhea, that’s a good thing.”
