Vaiguru said the county has also established a fish aggregation centre in Kiaga where farmers can sell their fish and undergo initial processing and cold storage for further sale.
Sagana Industrial City will also provide farmers with an outlet to sell their fish and process it to increase their income.
During the event, Waiguru also distributed water pipes and fittings for the Kangai Domestic Water Supply Project, which will serve 7,500 users.
“These pipes and fittings will improve water supply from the KICOWASCO bulk water supply system. It will serve Kangai and Kathiga districts including Mbeti, Karikoini, Kombu-ini and Mathigaini sub-districts,” she said.
Fish farmer, Moses Chomba, has hailed the impact of Governor Waiguru’s Wezesha Empowerment Programme, saying it is transforming people’s livelihoods.
“As a member of the Kariya Youth Group, we have previously received pond liners and 1,000 fish fry, and were also fortunate enough to receive comprehensive training on fish farming from experts sent by the county government.”
“After the harvest, we went on to sell the fish and earned over Sh100,000 which we shared as a group and reinvested by restocking the fish fry. We are grateful to the county government for providing us with an honest means of earning a living,” he added.
Kangai MCA James Wambu said the distribution of pipes and fittings would help provide households with treated domestic water.
““In Kange, we have plenty of water, but it is not clean enough to drink. During the rainy season, the area floods and the residents suffer,” Wambu said.
