BRASILIA (Reuters) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has requested a call with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to address tensions over a disputed election, a Brazilian source familiar with the matter told Reuters today.
The news was first reported by local TV station GloboNews. According to the source, the date of the call has not yet been determined.
Lula will hold a conference call today with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Colombian leader Gustavo Petro to discuss the situation in Venezuela following a bitterly contested presidential election that led to Maduro’s return to power, the sources said.
López Obrador said in his daily conference call that he would likely discuss Venezuela with his Brazilian and Colombian counterparts, noting that the call was expected to take place in the early afternoon.
Yesterday, Mexico’s president said there was no evidence of election fraud in Venezuela, but at the same time called for all voting results to be made public.
