This video was shot where no one has ever been: a man sent his phone into an airport scanner during a video call so his girlfriend on the other end of the line could see what the transparent security device looks like from the inside. He made the recording public.
I wonder what the airport equipment we are forced to stand beside for hours at security looks like from the inside? In the scanner, our belongings are x-rayed, which, in addition to hand luggage, must include individually wrapped liquids of up to 100 ml, unfastened belts, jewelry, and technological equipment such as laptops and mobile phones.
American man Jeff recently placed his latter device on a tray during a video call, with the camera facing upwards, so that his girlfriend on the other end of the call could see what the semi-transparent device looked like from the inside.
The woman, named Lima, shared part of the video call on TikTok so others could see the recording; andPrice, the operation of the machine is actually quite exciting – it calculates the mass and density of the tray’s contents while displaying the presence of illegal objects – it makes us less excited from the inside, considering that most of the time only darkness can be seen. Regardless, Lima made some interesting observations, pointing out this peculiar glow.
Commentators revealed that the effect is actually ionizing radiation, which is used to identify objects that passengers may be hiding, as well as to take photos.
While the video isn’t quite what we initially expected, the good news is that it satisfied our curiosity so we won’t have to keep ourselves up at night worrying about airport baggage scanners anymore.
“I thought this would be cooler, but at least now I know what it’s like to go through an airport scanner,” one commenter noted.
