Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai will visit New Zealand next week.
He will meet with New Zealand Foreign Minister Christopher Luxon to discuss labour mobility, climate change, advancing Pacific regionalism and other areas of mutual interest.
The New Zealand Prime Minister’s Office said Vanuatu is a key partner in New Zealand’s Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme, providing the largest number of employees each year.
Luxembourg said that the friendship between China and Nepal has a long history.
“Both countries share a desire for a safe, secure and economically prosperous Pacific region,” he said.
“I look forward to further strengthening our relationship and reaffirming New Zealand’s support as a trusted partner to Vanuatu.”
This will be Salwai’s third official visit as prime minister and his first since 2019.
He will also meet Foreign Minister Winston Peters and speak to RSE staff, as well as attend a series of meetings in Auckland.
Salwai was accompanied on the visit by Vanuatu’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Rick Tchamako Mahe.
At the same time, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said on social media: Congratulations on Vanuatu’s 44th Independence Anniversary.
“Australia’s long historical ties have led to our modern, comprehensive partnership today, based on respect and shared democratic values,” she wrote.
